The Antique Rose Emporium
Won't you come into my garden? I would like my roses to see you. ~Richard Sheridan.
Only a poet and a rosarian could write such loyal words. Roses are glorious friends and if you feel the same, you must visit The Antique Rose Emporium in Independence, Texas. Just about any rose you ever wanted is on display and available for sale. If you live out of state or simply love roses, request a catalog to fulfill your garden dreams while learning about the history, culture, and cultivation of the magnificent flower.
After the spring rains on a sunny day, my mother and I traveled an hour west to Independence, Texas. Along the way, We enjoy the blooming wildflowers, floating butterflies, and wide open country road on our way to The Antique Rose Emporium. We will never tire of visiting the roses and dreaming of fragrant gardens. Every year strolling among the splendid fragrant blooms, I promise myself a rose garden.
From pioneer, old blush, and hybrid tea to shrub, climbers and more, the store has an endless selection. The grounds are cultivated with herbs and wildflowers intermixed with various rose varieties for a total garden experience. There is a lovely gift shop with local goods and garden tools. Do not forget the rose gloves!
Julia Child, lively and fragrant
There is much more to do than just roses. The surrounding countryside makes for a beautiful drive. The fields are filled with wildflowers and wide open sunny skies. Be one of the folks enjoying the warm spring weather while wandering the maze and resting in the shade. Watch others preparing for their nuptials with pictures of love among the roses. This weekend is Mother's Day and what a wonderful way to spend the day with mom. There are plenty of delectable options for lunch from country cooking and bbq to cafes and fancy dining in the downtown areas of Chappel Hill and Brenham. On Saturday, May 7th from 10am -3 pm, Chappell Hill Lavender Farm is "Celebrating Moms" at their Spring Fling. Mothers are encouraged to cut a flower bundle from the fields of lavender for free. My mom and I go almost every year to walk among the roses, cut fresh lavender from the fields, and enjoy a glass of wine over lunch. Surprise your mother to a truly delightful day this Saturday. Happy Mother's Day!

That chapel with the arbors framing it is lovely! This does, indeed, look like a place I would like to visit. I’m so glad we had a chance to meet each other at The Fling! Cheers!
Indeed, The Antique Rose Emporium is a favorite. There are so many wonderful rose varieties that a blog post could not do them justice. Glad to meet everyone at the Fling. See you next year!
Wow, I SO admire your energy to scoot around at ARE after Toronto. But, glad you did, since I haven’t gotten to go this year. So wonderful to see it through your post.
Linda, I visited the ARE in the spring. Every spring my mom and I visit to see the wildflowers and the roses.
